Ed Bearss - America’s Historian “The End of the War” at the Gaslight Theater on April 6, 2013 3:00PM with music by Deann Kelley at 2:30PM.
Ed Bearss (born June 26, 1923), a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, is a military historian and author known for his work on the American Civil War and World War II eras and is the most popular tour guide of historic battlefields in the US. He served as Chief Historian of the National Park Service from 1981 to 1994. After his retirement in 1995, he received the title Chief Historian Emeritus which he holds to this day. Ed has correctly been called a national treasure by many people in the American historical community. Ed can tell the story of an event or of a historical character like no other. His style is his own, and if Ed Bearss can’t make you believe that history is a living thing, then no one can.
Mr. Bearss is coming to Georgetown, Ohio to speak on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The U.S. Grant Homestead is proud to sponsor the event at the Gaslight Theater, 301 S. Main Street, at 3:00 PM. Mr. Bearss’ topic will be “The End of the Civil War” Admission is $10.00. General Grant was directing one of the most dramatic campaigns of the Civil War in Virginia. Gen. Grant has forced Gen. Lee into no win position. Mr. Bearss’ talk will bring to life all of these events and more. Our area is rich with stories of historic importance. The story of Ulysses S. Grant and the thousands of local men who made up an important part of his powerful Union armies is a story that you should hear. Our local men served in the Army of the Potomac and the Western Armies and helped to bring the War to its close. Learn of General Grant’s ‘Greatest Moment’. There is no one who can tell their stories better than Edwin C. Bearss.
Grand Re-Opening of the U.S. Grant Boyhood Home on April 6, 2013. Home will be open 11AM-1PM with a dedication at 12pm. For more information: 937-378-3087
